I'd choose Descript if your videos are primarily: talking head, commentary, tutorials, educational content, interviews, podcasts, screen recordings, or narrated YouTube videos.

I'd favor CapCut over Descript if your editing style involves lots of zooms, memes, animated captions, B-roll, effects, and rapid visual changes.

🥉 OpusClip if you're repurposing

If your workflow is "make one 20–60 minute video → turn it into 5–15 Shorts", I'd add OpusClip rather than trying to manually create every short.

What I'd actually use as a solo creator

For long-form YouTube:

For Shorts-first:
CapCut

For long-form + lots of Shorts:
Descript → OpusClip → CapCut for final polish

That last workflow is particularly attractive for a one-person operation because you're spending your time on ideas, scripting and recording, rather than becoming a professional video editor.
