Understanding AI Visibility Scoring

VisibilityTool.AI measures your brand's visibility across four major Large Language Models: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity. We track five core metrics: Latent Brand Association (the model's built-in associations with your brand), LLM Authority Score (how frequently and prominently your brand appears in AI responses), Top of Mind (whether the model recalls your brand without external retrieval), Semantic Self-Sufficiency (how well your content stands on its own when extracted by AI), and Citation Capture Rate (how often your content is selected as a source in AI-generated answers).

We query each LLM multiple times with relevant prompts related to your industry and brand category, then analyze the responses for brand mentions, positioning, sentiment, and associations. Each metric is scored on a scale of 0 to 100, where higher scores indicate stronger AI visibility. The multi-query approach accounts for the probabilistic nature of AI outputs, giving you a reliable score rather than a single-point snapshot.

Score refresh frequency depends on your plan. Free users receive monthly score refreshes, Pro users get weekly updates, and Enterprise users can access daily refreshes. More frequent updates let you track the impact of content changes and optimization efforts in near real-time.

Each model has different training data, training cutoff dates, and retrieval systems, so your brand's visibility can vary significantly from one LLM to another. For example, a brand might score well on ChatGPT but poorly on Gemini because of differences in what content each model was trained on, how recently its data was updated, and how its retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) system works. That's why we measure across all four models and provide per-model breakdowns.

The Overall AI Visibility Score is a weighted composite of all five metrics, giving you a single number from 0 to 100 that represents your brand's total AI visibility. It's designed to be the one number you track over time to understand whether your AI presence is improving, declining, or holding steady. You can always drill into the individual metrics for a deeper breakdown.
